Here is the first selection of hotels and lodges we are currently working with in Tuscany in 2019/2020. We have many more structures we know and have worked with over the years but selection below have all proved themselves to be excellent for many reasons. Be aware that as one of Italy's most requested areas availability really is an issue from May to October.Tuscany is just too beautiful to be ignored and the wines and foods and wines all are at their peak in this incredible region.

Hotel: Villa Cora, Florence. Tuscany
Villa Cora is a stunning five star mansion. Located up above the frenetic town of Florence, this is the best stay going. Set in beautiful gardens and sweeping driveways in this prestigious residential parkland between the Viale dei Colli Gardens and Boboli, it is a real delight. Shuttles or 20 minute walk and you are in front of the Pitti Palace. The management (Italian) totally gets it and we can safely say that Villa Cora is the best hotel in Florence. If Four Seasons is massive, this is intimate. It features 46 rooms/suites, a heated swimming pool and a restaurant that is very much on everybody’s lips. A more sophisticated yet understated stay in Florence.
Hotel: Garabaldi Blu. Florence Tuscany
Location Location Location and this hotel has it in spades. We have been working with this locally owned chain Why the best since we started in Florence in 2011. All their hotels are extremely well run, staff well trained and the rooms tend towards the larger in Florence and they will always try to adapt to the needs of our clients be that early check ins, upgrades and the likes. This is a hotel that takes in 3 different buildings and it come sometimes feel a little confusing about where you actually are. There are some very quirky superhero full size models which add to this curious mix.
The refit conducted in this property has been done by the owner and the style is modern refined with style. Think parquet floors, Brazilian woods cooling blues and white linens. All the hotels with the exception of Villa Cora enjoy this melding of modern and traditional. The Santa Maria Square is one of Florences most iconic and we suggest a frontage room. All other services are as you would expect at this 4 star hotel.
Hotel: Balestri, Florence. Tuscany
The hotel finished its complete refit in 2015. We loved the Balestri before and now it is an even smarter choice for our clients. Rooms are a real heaven of whites, gold and grays, a zen like feeling that is perfect for a town that is a sensory overload. Balestri is a super 4 star hotel that enjoys a privileged location over the River Arno, but just far enough from the maddening crowds and 10 minutes away from all of the action. Highly recommended.
Hotel l’Orologio, Florence, Tuscany
We know and love the management. If you love fine watches this is the place, the theme of time is a lovely touch, but all other parts of the hotel work like clockwork too. Pardon the Pun.
Hotel Brunelleschi, Florence. Tuscany
We were totally convinced this was a 5 star hotel when we stayed here but no its 4 star and that tells you everything you need to know. Super design lead rooms and large for Florence. Location is beyond central but thankfully in a quiet side street with little or no traffic. Love the breakfast and views from some of the pricier rooms. A rightfully busy and very successful hotel.
Hotel: Grand Hotel Continental, Siena, Tuscany
To say there is only one hotel in Siena tells you everything you need to know about the Grand Hotel Continental. The lobby alone is a mouth dropping experience and this continues throughout the palace. There are 51 rooms spanning six different categories, finishing up with the Panoramic Suite. The hotel is part of the Starhotels Collection, this is perhaps their most palatial property. The Continental is packed full of historical pieces and all rooms are decorated in the manner befitting this incredible renaissance palace. Expect marble filled bathrooms silks on the walls, original frescoes on the ceilings and porcelains that all add to the experience of living in a sumptuous 17th-century styled palazzo. We also like with its small size you always have the feel of intimacy. As they say, location is everything and being right in the centre of Siena, the Grand Hotel Continental is perfectly placed for restaurants and sightseeing. Apart from the bar area, there is also an in-house restaurant, SaporDivino, restaurant with a serious wine list overseen by Chef Luca Ciaffarafà. Luca does reinvent the best of local cooking for his guests. In the cellar of the hotel, a delightful enoteca is an ideal spot for a glass before dinner, if we have not over-wined you. Expensive, but highly recommended.
Hotel: Capanna Suites. Montalcino, Tuscany
We have been working with this winery over the years and finally they have inaugurated their Lodging, Its taken a lot longer than anticipated. Its not only superb in all aspects its run by very competent people. who we trust. Intimate with just 11 rooms and suites. Capanna is our go to winery finally having a good lodging in Montalcino that is not as expensive and more relaxed than Castiglion del Bosco. All Amenities are spot on, design touches and great Italian finishes everywhere. Small Spa with treatments and a pool with the most incredible 180 View of the vineyards of South Eastern Brunello Vines. with Montosoli being one of the great zones. Chef has a star and like everything else here the mood is relaxed and attracts the same. You wont find a great meal so easy as this one. We are very pleased to be working with Capanna. They know what is expected for our customers.
Hotel: Castiglion del Bosco, Montalcino, Tuscany
The estate of Castiglion del Bosco, recently becoming a Rosewood managed hotel (belonging to Massimo Ferragamo since 2003), is a meticulously converted medieval borgo, which has been transformed into an exclusive international resort. With 800 years of history and 4,000 incredible acres, this is the largest private property in Italy. The luxurious suites bear the trademark of Ferragamo, with outstanding high leather touches throughout. Room decorations tend towards traditional local shades such as ochre, burgundy and green. The estate has two restaurants, one more formal (Campo del Drago) and one more casual (La Canonica). Castiglion del Bosco has the de rigueur SPA and infinity pools with the views over heaven on earth. This place is a dream and guests tend to be from all over the world, well travelled and as Castiglion del Bosco is home to one of Italy’s most important golf courses, keen golfers are also in evidence.
Hotel: Suite d’Artista, Montalcino. Tuscany
Want to stay in the centre of Montalcino and have the luxury of a beautiful garden too? Suite d’Artista could fit the bill. This small house has it all, sauna, steam room, professional kitchen where we can make cooking experiences. More gadgets that you can imagine, all set in your own gardens with stunning views and an external Jacuzzi. This intimate stay is perfectly located in the centre of the delightful Montalcino. Cannot say enough good things about it.
There is No website nor TripAdvisor Comments. The Owner prefers to keep things quiet, Being just one Apartment we understand. It’s a special place, a home away from home.
Hotel: Castello del Nero, Chianti. Tuscany
This is our go to Honeymoon lodge, perfectly placed for exploring Chianti and Florence with an amazing management. We prefer the main house rooms. Big money but expectations have always been met and surpassed here. Clients feedback has been outstanding over the years.
Hotel: Castel Monastero. Siena. Tuscany
This Castle or as we say in Tuscany a Borgo and a beautiful one at that. With 78 immaculate suites and rooms. This is a new property for us and we are so pleased to be able to offer it to our clients. There are many Pretenders in this zone but we have never been convinced of their style or management, Castel Monastero feels different and is not a chain and of course so much better for it.
Food and beverage is suitably strong with Enrico Marmo the chef overseeing both ‘Contrada’ the top restaurant and ‘La Cantina’ for a lighter more casual affairs as one would would expect being in the Chianti hills, they want to keep you in house and we certainly think a night or so in house is worthy.
We suggest the prestige rooms and up but the Royal Suite gets a little silly money wise and would save those funds for Villa Cora if we are moving to Florence.
The Spa which is reason we got interested in this property initially. FYI they have the most amazing face cream called Caviale del Mare fill your boots. Berber Massages, somato-emotional releases all up for grabs. The pools are killer as you would expect at this level. The Moto at Castello as we call it is a home away from home, perhaps an overused term but we feel it here.
Hotel: Poggio Ai Santi. San Vincenzo. Tuscan Coast
As soon as they open the gate for you, there is a feeling of one with nature and calmness, it’s a lovely feeling. Poggio Ai Santi is a recent addition to our properties, We first found the property due to its restaurant ‘Il Sale’ which has a reputation in the region, that has gone from serving very manicured haut cuisine to extremely simple yet personally farmed animals and fruits and vegetables with only fish being brought in from the coast by an old boy in a little Piaggio. You will see that sea and Elba is ever present from the breathtaking views from this property. The restaurant and Aperitif scene in summer here is very strong so we are careful which rooms we book. We prefer to book the top sea view suite which is huge and extremely quiet and set in the forest. Less expensive rooms are available but if we are making our way here we say treat yourself.
Everything is extremely homely with some very chic touches with these rooms we are more than set. The grounds as you will discover are just amazing, there are many places to find a place to read or take a wine, dogs cats, donkeys they are all just happy and wandering around disturbing nobody. In reality this is a small family owned house where the owners run and reside for 9 months of the year. Views over Elba Island and our vicinity to Bolgheri just finish it off. Dinner here is a must. The wine list is super and not at all overpriced. So while being more laid back we think its charms will be more than sufficient for a wonderful stay in this zone which still enjoys only mild tourism apart from in August when we rarely work. The lack of industry in this region means its pristine in many ways. Francesca the owner runs the roost here, We love it, food, fluffy pillows, and the views are extraordinary. Close by we have the gorgeous Tuscan Coast, Hilltop Borgos such as Castagneto Carducci and the superb wineries of Bolgheri and beyond. Highly recommended.
Hotel: Il Pellicano, Porto Ercole. Tuscan Coast
Il Pellicano, One of the Classic hotels of the Tuscan Coast. Famed from the mid 1960’s with a jet set of Italians and Americans alike this hotel has a cult following. Views are just stunning, Pool and beach club all excellent. There is no negative really, Each year they work manically to keep the structure up to scratch and nothing is left to chance, I guess thats having a family management and ownership that makes the difference. With just 50 rooms Suites and separate Villas you never feel swamped with people. Pool area and Beach Zone are all gorgeous with white clad staff serving up the best in wines cocktails and Snacks.
Michelino Gioia the Chef overseas the Pelligrill for more informal dining and the main restaurant ( Michelin Starred) for more intimate dining. There are plenty of places to be outside of your room, the Pellicano has a very special atmosphere, its very friendly and many of our guests have raved about meeting like minded people, and having made friends over some super wines in this magical place. The Location is unique just over 2 hours North of Rome in Porto Ercole, one of the most Beautiful Towns in Italy Founded by the Etruscans on this headland’s unique coastline. Interestingly Porto Ercole is where the master Caravaggio died 1610.
Hotel: Relais St Elena. Bolgheri. Tuscan coast
This delightful Relais is a new addition to 2018 for Robertson Wine Tours. We are extremely happy to have found it. There has historically been a lack of good accommodations for our wine living guests in the Bolgheri zone and St Elena more than fulfils our needs for 2 or 3 nights in this beautiful part of the Tuscan coastline. We prefer the Luxury or Superior rooms due to the size and the prices are are not outlandish in any way. Food is also a huge draw here, Breakfast and dinners are first class with a-lot of ingredients sourced from their extensive gardens and from farmers in the surrounding hills. Being in Bibbona it would be a shame not to eat at our favourite fish restaurant in Tuscany, La Pianeta. Staff are immaculately dressed and trained and obviously extremely happy in their environment. The grounds are a delight as are the many communal areas to take a wine or read a book. The swimming pool enjoys uninterrupted views and of course the gorgeous Tuscan sea is just a few kilometers away. Relais St Elena is perfectly placed for wine touring around Bolgheri and also moving up to Lucca for the day or just to take a few days off from the RWT experience. Highly Recommended
Hotel: Conti di San Bonifacio Wine resort. Tuscan Coast
The gorgeous Conti di San Bonifacio is wine estate and intimate retreat (7 rooms) in the hills of the tuscan coast. We choose this resort for clients who have enough time on their hands and want to be able to really kick back for a few days. Famous wine zones such as Bolgerhi and Montalcino are accessible but more than anything this is a place we really prefer you to enjoy by yourselves, Walks, and cooking experiences arranged by the staff and just being in these pristine hills is what its all about. A titled family (count hence the name) have built this designer hideaway, Expect never ending hills and vineyard vistas. Some design touches here and there but everything is utilisable. Spa and Sauna and everything you would need for a few nights here. The kitchen is a large factor in the choice of this estate and Chef Barsotti excels at everything she touches. Property works well for Bolgheri (under an hour) and with just 7 rooms it can be hard to get in but we very much recommend it.
