TESTIMONIAL

Yes, As always up to your usual standards, We loved all the Hotels and felt the standout was Castiglion del Bosco, the Suite was incredible and the staff beyond helpful, that said we thought the staff at Continental in Siena went over and above in all ways, you obviously have a great relationship with them and the same said for the wineries we visited with you. We cannot really fault the tour apart from the usual problem of your spoilt us and now its back to reality. We very much look forward to our trip with you next year in Spain.

Hotel: Grand Hotel Continental, Siena, Tuscany

To say there is only one hotel in Siena tells you everything you need to know about the Grand Hotel Continental. The lobby alone is a mouth dropping experience and this continues throughout the palace. There are 51 rooms spanning six different categories, finishing up with the Panoramic Suite. The hotel is part of the Starhotels Collection, this is perhaps their most palatial property. The Continental is packed full of historical pieces and all rooms are decorated in the manner befitting this incredible renaissance palace. Expect marble filled bathrooms silks on the walls, original frescoes on the ceilings and porcelains that all add to the experience of living in a sumptuous 17th-century styled palazzo. We also like with its small size you always have the feel of intimacy.  As they say, location is everything and being right in the centre of Siena, the Grand Hotel Continental is perfectly placed for restaurants and sightseeing. Apart from the bar area, there is also an in-house restaurant, SaporDivino, restaurant with a serious wine list overseen by Chef Luca Ciaffarafà. Luca does reinvent the best of local cooking for his guests. In the cellar of the hotel, a delightful enoteca is an ideal spot for a glass before dinner, if we have not over-wined you. Expensive, but highly recommended.

Hotel: Castiglion del Bosco, Montalcino, Tuscany

The estate of Castiglion del Bosco, recently becoming a Rosewood managed hotel (belonging to Massimo Ferragamo since 2003), is a meticulously converted medieval borgo, which has been transformed into an exclusive international resort. With 800 years of history and 4,000 incredible acres, this is the largest private property in Italy. The luxurious suites bear the trademark of Ferragamo, with outstanding high leather touches throughout. Room decorations tend towards traditional local shades such as ochre, burgundy and green. The estate has two restaurants, one more formal (Campo del Drago) and one more casual (La Canonica). Castiglion del Bosco has the de rigueur SPA and infinity pools with the views over heaven on earth. This place is a dream and guests tend to be from all over the world, well travelled and as Castiglion del Bosco is home to one of Italy’s most important golf courses, keen golfers are also in evidence.

Hotel: Hilton Rome Airport, Fiumicino, Lazio

Hilton Rome Airport is an enormous highly successful hotel with over 500 rooms and offers the best option for our guests who have early morning flights or when it is just not worth returning to the centre of Rome for one last night and having to deal with the stress of returning to the airport the next morning. The hotel works perfectly for convenience and really is at walking distance through covered bridges to all the main airport terminals taking all stress out of the equation. Wi-Fi is complimentary and have had no issues with it over the years. The other thing we like is the rooms are well soundproofed, meaning you are guaranteed a good night sleep. Being Italy, food here is not second class at the onsite restaurant, so there is no need to have to look for alternatives. It may not hit the heights of the sumptuous meals you have been enjoying with us, but you will not go hungry and staff is very attentive. The classic rooms are 28 sqm and if that is not enough, there are suites up to 52 sqm.

Tim Robertson

Your tour leader will be Tim Robertson. Tim was born in UK and is of Scottish descent. Tim was introduced to fine wines in 1988 when he worked for Sakagura Wine & Liquor, part of Intercontinental Group in Hong Kong. He was responsible for selling their collection of Bordeaux wines and other top quality new world wines, probably the best collection in Asia at that time. He never quite recovered from tasting the very best at the age of 18. However, he went on to complete his studies in Economics and Business. He was unable to find a suitably well-paid job in wine in London and so embarked on a career in finance. He decided to leave finance in 1998 to refocus on finding a project involving his love: the wine. He inaugurated Robertson Wine Tours in 2003. Client base of Robertson Wine Tours has always been rightly demanding of the best, extremely well-travelled and generally with knowledge of wine. The business has grown organically over the years and despite efforts to get involved in exporting, he has fortunately stuck to the tried and tested formula of offering clients the best the wine countries have to offer. This is Robertson Wine Tours.
