FOCUS

Dear Marianne and Peter:

Firstly thank you for the opportunity to work with you to design and run the trip you have in the last part of December to South America. We have twelve years of experience in doing exactly that so you can be well assured that everything will go to plan ... and we will deliver and surpass your expectations. That's what we do.

So we have 14 days to play with. It sounds a lot but you have opted for four destinations so we have designed the tour with your relaxation and a clever itinerary that fits in the domestic flights correctly. We are going to show you two rural lodgings. The first is in Chile at the fabulous winery of Matetic, a biodynamic power house owning 9,000 hectares ... basically the whole valley of Rosario. There are many possibilities of enjoying nature here and their guides are seriously knowledgeable. We will also take you to the wild and rugged beaches of Uruguay and have you staying at the beach house of La Viuda, which is a great compromise between chic and understated elegance and price in the very hip and trendy village of José Ignacio. For town and city life we are parking you in the Park Hyatt on the central square of Mendoza, a beautiful hotel close to all the shopping, wine bars and excellent restaurants of Mendoza. We have squeezed in four days in Buenos Aires ... not quite the four nights you wanted but close enough. Here we plan you to stay in our go to BA lodge ... Legado Mitico ... right in the centre of Palermo the place to be in Buenos Aires. Mariana (our BA resident guide) is going to show you everything this world city can offer. We know you are not massive fans of celebrating Christmas and New Year ... but we will be arranging two outstanding dinners for you. Peter gets to birdwatch in Uruguay and we guess Marianne will join you. Fly-fishing the rainbow trout on 16 miles of river in the Andes foothills south Of Mendoza will give us a correct balance of nature and of course wine.

We tend to get excited about the winery visits, but in this case we have held back. We have included seven winery visits from the small garage to the magnificent cathedrals to wine ... a great overview and sumptuous lunches in couple of the wineries. We know things get busy this time of year and thank you for booking your international flights so promptly.

All in all a wonderful tour and we look forward to welcoming you to our region.

Testimonial – Southern Cone – Wine & Food Experience – 13 Nights

Tim and Cristian — all the hours you spent with us — planning, recommending, booking, re-planning — paid off with a beautifully orchestrated, smoothly executed trip that packed three countries into two weeks. Considering how much ground we covered, it’s amazing that it all went off without a hitch, and a testament to your knowledge and attention to detail. Lovely guides in every destination, fabulous meals and wine, interesting tastings and discussions at small wineries, thoughtful hotel choices (we so loved La Azul in Valle de Uco) and fly fishing, birdwatching and tango too! Thank you for a truly memorable experience.

Santiago de Chile – The Aubrey

The Aubrey opened its doors in March 2010 for those seeking for a stylish and design-driven boutique hotel with personalized service and direct access to some of best attractions of Santiago de Chile. The location is the colourful neighbourhood of Bellavista, just steps away from many interesting restaurants and cultural activities. The Aubrey is a restored 1927 mansion that pays homage to the Bellavista’s storied past, while dazzling with modern aesthetic. The fifteen light and airy rooms are individually sized and decorated, featuring dark wood, copper lamps, polished parquet floors and geometrically patterned linens.

Valparaiso – Casa Higueras

The hills of Valparaiso have enjoyed a boom of boutique hotels in the last decade, but Casa Higueras is a cut above the rest. Casa Higueras exemplifies a new standard. The two million dollars restoration tucked twenty spacious rooms (many with ocean-view terraces) into a former mansion’s elegant craftsman-style interior with five stars flair. Dark wooden floors and corridors create a very calm interior and the views across the bay and back up the hill are spectacular. Expect mod cons (keyless entry and noise-reducing windows) and plenty of pampering. A stunning terraced garden cascades to an infinity pool. Casa Higueras is the perfect choice in Valparaiso.

Uco Valley – Finca La Azul Guest House

Shirley & Pablo’s house: this could be the alternative name of Finca La Azul. They are who bring this all to life and make it the most intimate stay on this side of the Andes. A beautiful design lead home that they cleverly built to include some extra rooms for their guests: we hope you will be among them. Endless 360 degree vineyards views with the Andes ever present. The rooms are extremely large and light filled, all enjoying their own terraces. The style is typical of Argentine Pampa with exposed walls, wall to ceiling glass giving a rustic yet clean effect. There is also a huge garden to enjoy with a swimming pool and a parrilla, where the BBQ meats work their magic. Paul & Shirley are avid about food/wine and super cooks. This stay will be intimate and relaxing. Highly Recommended. Availability is an issue.

Mendoza City – Diplomatic

Diplomatic is located in a privileged position just few blocks from the main commercial and tourist areas. Its strategic location offers guests the best view of both the Andes and the city itself. Built as the Luxury Hotel to beat in Mendoza, it was designed in exquisite detail involving elegance and class, large spaces and rooms and suites with lovely parquet flooring not carpet.  You can also enjoy a super pool and decked area with views over the Andes. Full Spa services, a breakfast that hits all the buttons. We really like this hotel especially as the fact it is not an international chain and is owned and run by a Mendoza family.

Carmelo – Narbona Wine Lodge

Narbona Wine Lodge is where cool set come from Montevideo and Buenos Aires come to relax at the weekends or holidays. Beautifully built (new build) and situated on an important estancia dating back to 1909, its a hit for us and our clients. On site there is a lovely restaurant, a bakery, a general store, a museum, a winery and a vineyard, you never need to leave. At one with nature, tranquil and relaxing; exactly as Uruguay should be.

Buenos Aires – Bo Bo

Bo Bo stands for Bourgeois Bohemian. It is situated in a quiet area of cobbled streets. It is a small and charming boutique hotel with fifteen rooms. Personalized service, friendly staff and a Buenos Aires destination restaurant, all add to its charms. Well priced and wonderfully located in the heart of Palermo, you have a massive choice of restaurants, wine bars and shopping possibilities, just stumbling distance.

Tour Outline & Guiding – Southern Cone – 13 Nights

GUIDING

Eduardo (Santiago & San Antonio, Chile)

Eduardo studied anthropology, marketing and communications. He is a musician, cultural promoter and a photography buff. He has spent his life between concerts, both on and off stage, recording studios and travelling through Chile. In 2009, he decided to take a break from his urban lifestyle and leave for the Patagonia in a foundational experience that would change his life. For more than four years, he toured around the Patagonia, showing remote landscapes to foreign travellers and then departed to Atacama. The experience prompted him to explore the deep connection among nature, colour and music. And also, to develop a new language through the sense of sight, photography.

Carolina (Casablanca & Valparaiso, Chile)

Carolina has been involved in the wine industry of Chile for eight years, starting as a tour guide and learning everything she could … straight from the vineyards and winemakers themselves. After realizing how much she loved the wine industry, she began her studies at the Sommelier School of Chile to expand her knowledge of wine and spirits. Since then, she has worked in some of the most important vineyards in Chile … including the Viñedos Organicos Emiliana Winery and the Almaviva Winery. Very passionate about food and wine, she also spends time working in the best restaurants of Santiago by providing a wine pairing service. She loves outdoor life and traveling. Carolina loves to get to know her passengers to be able to provide them the best experience possible.

Octavio (Mendoza, Argentina)

Octavio has been working with Robertson Wine Tours for several years. He is 28 years old and is very passionate about wine. Apart from his knowledge about the wines and the different wine regions, Octavio has also a very vast knowledge on many topics of general culture … so it becomes very interesting to be in his company as always very enriching conversations occur. It is a very sweet person and people fall in love with him all the time. Octavio is finally respectful and is always attentive to the needs of the people that came to visit the region of Mendoza.

Mariana (Buenos Aires, Argentina)

She is fluent in English & Spanish with many years of experience in tourism. Mariana is just the perfect guide as she can read people very well and knows pretty well how to get into the skin of Buenos Aires. You will have with Mariana a very intense and fascinating understanding of Buenos Aires. And do not forget that she is also a great tango dancer.
