FOCUS

Dear Michelle and Blake

Naturally, we would be thrilled if you elect Robertson Wine Tours to travel with in Sicily in September while you come for the wedding of your friends.

We think Sicily is one of the most exciting and interesting places to visit in Italy. We have invested more time and energies in this zone than any other, as we 100% believe in the destination: the wines and the foods are in a league of their own, especially if you enjoy seafood.

Sicily is big island: at its widest point, Sicily measures 175 miles east to west and about one third that distance north to south. This means that to set a relaxed pace and to enjoy Sicily you need time and as such we have designed the tour to be 8 nights as discussed with the Wedding in middle. We do know what is achievable in Sicily in 8 nights and it is impossible to do the whole island in that time in an enjoyable fashion so lets concentrate on what is achievable and what could be of interest to you.

We are not going to force to much wine or structure on you, just enough, perfectly balanced knowing that you are young and adventureous but also wanting some down time.

4 Nights in Taormina makes all the sense in the world and is a super destination especially for a wedding. There is a great buzz in the town, you have The greek theatre, world class views and of course the wonderful sea.

We are making our suggestions for your tour which starts in the Noto valley and ends in the stunning village of Scopello to the west of Palermo and is ideal for leaving for your flight out of Palermo back to NYC.

There will be time to visit the UNESCO town of Syracuse, its amazing island Ortigia and the Neapolis Archaeological Park. We will take a look at the late baroque towns of Noto, Modica and Ragusa and Scicli.

As time is short we would like to rob you for at least half a day and take you to Etna while you are in Taormina, and perhaps thats a day you could invite some of your friends on if that were appropriate, 2 wineries and a lunch at a winery would be the way to go, other choices could be to climb to the summit of Etna if you are feeling more adventurous. Post Taormina we think you are going to love being west, seeing another Sicily all together, with the chance to see magical Erice, Trapani and some of the wonderful sights that abound on this side of the island.

By working with us you would not need to think about driving nor the stress of sicilian driving which can sometimes be a little daunting for clients. We will pick you up from the airport and deliver you safely back for your flight back to NYC.

We have compiled this quickly, but the most important effort has been put into logistics of the idea we are showing you, we know these two lodges intimately and think they will be a super fit knowing what we do about you thus far.

Nothing is set in stone, no reservations have been made before your feedback, but we have earmarked your dates for me which are currently free to be your driver and guide should you wish to proceed.

Vsv Costs we can have this priced up pretty quickly when we know what you like or would like to change, there is plenty to to think and discuss here and look forward to touching base when you have had a chance to digest this.

Saluti

Tim

Hotel: Villa Dorata 7 Rooms and Country House. Noto. Sicily

Villa Dorata 7 Rooms: Central Noto

Country House Villa Dorata: 5 kms from Noto in the Countryside.

Two different structures, availability is an issue in both as its so good, simple as that.

Naturally people choose to be in tranquility at Country House or in 7 Rooms in the delightful Sicilian town of Noto with the most incredible late Baroque buildings. Super restaurants and plenty of street life, yet this is a small town in the most wonderful of locations. Perfectly placed for Syracuse, Modica and Ragusa and Ispica and Scicli. The other notable plus for people who love nature reserves and the sea is the  Nature Reserve Oasis of Vendicari, just 15 kms away, The coastline is magnificent with one of the most incredible seas and beaches in Sicily. For wine we are blessed with Riovara and many other great producers of Nero D’Avola in the region.

The Townhouse or 7 Rooms Villa Dorata consists of 7  rooms of which one is a two bedroom suite.  Design wise this is outstanding, all rooms are all beautifully and we mean stunning; Wall to ceiling doors, Soothing fabrics greys and creams colours that contrast with the light reflections of the yellow sandstone buildings. All in all a very relaxing stay.

Website: 7 Rooms Villa Dorata

At the Country House there are 3 typologies and 8 rooms and one suite, Light airy and well laid out they have everything you want for a 2 to 4 night stay. Yes Taxis do work in the area but need to be organised prior where possible. The distance to Noto is 3 miles / 5 kms but requires walking on a road, not advised. Its been hard to find a quality lodge that is small and perfectly formed this is it.

Hotel: Villa Cristina. Scopello Sicily

Just west of Palermo and superbly located for flights in or out of Palermo we find Villa Cristina, a total gem of a small design lead hotel, We are fortunate to know Anthony the owner very well and we adore this luxury hideaway. Only opened in March 2019 everything is super high tech, beautifully thought of with just 7 rooms and suites this really is a wonderful and intimate stay.

At Villa Cristina not only are you just minutes from some of the wonderful beaches that this region is famous for you have the delightful village of Scopello and the larger town of Castelmare del Golfo 10 minutes away.

Breakfast is cooked to your preferences and the kitchen is already a draw for the locals and a superb sicilian wine list caps it all, due to the small size of the property the dining menu is not inexpensive but Anthony is looking for something special here and we think its justifed at least for one night.

A small spa zone is available on site for massages and the like but the pool and the sea close by are the real attractions here. If you are here for a few nights then it would be remiss not to see Trapani, Erice and the Temple of Segesta.

GUIDING

Tim Robertson.

Tim was born in the UK and is of Scottish descent. Tim was introduced to fine wines in 1988 when he worked for Sakagura Wine & Liquor … part of Intercontinental Group in Hong Kong. He was responsible for selling their collection of Bordeaux Wines and other top quality new world wines, probably the best collection in Asia at that time. He never quite recovered from tasting the very best at early age of 18. However, he went on to complete his studies in Economics and Business. He was unable to find a suitably well-paid job in wine in London and so embarked on a career in finance, including, Fidelity Investments, Schroders and CSFB. He decided to leave finance in 1998 to refocus on finding a project involving his love: the wine. Tim inaugurated Robertson Wine Tours (RWT) in 2003. The business has grown organically over the years and despite efforts to get involved in exporting he has stuck to the tried and tested formula of offering his clients the best the wine countries have to offer. The client base of RWT is rightly demanding of the best, extremely well travelled and generally with knowledge or love of wine
