Wine & Food Experience in Central Italy: Rome & Tuscany

Rome & Tuscany - 8 Nights for Suzanne & Peter and Julie & Peter

Tentative Dates: Saturday 25th April 2020 - Sunday   03rd May  2020

Dear Family Grinnell Morris Its a great pleasure for us to present this first draft for you. Having taken into account the points brought up in our call this is our first proposal for you but it really tick all the boxes, its stress free, plenty of flexibility, Perfectly paced. You will enjoy the best of Caput Mundi and Tuscany. We have tried to outline the tour with some structure, and how we we would play it.

Once we agree on Dates and Hotels and you get your Air locked in we do have a good chunk of time to make adjustments, cover any sights or zones you would like to include. Hotels these are our first choices (We have shown two options in Rome), If you do not like them for whatever reason please do not worry we have plenty of options. Restaurants are just good ideas of where we like and having noted your preference for authentic, local restaurants, naturally we have added some extra special spots too.

We have kept the wine to a minimum as asked for, Just one or two wineries we really do think is warranted, hope you agree! We have offered you 2 options on Day 07 which is Friday 1st May. You mentioned Siena was not of interest, but a early evening stroll prior to dinner could really work.

As we design everything for our clients accordingly we will work with you to ensure you have the tour you want and we trust that having travelled before with our company that will give you peace of mind. Saluti Tim

Hotel: Donna Camilla Savelli, Rome

Housed in a beautifully restored 17th-century monastery designed by Borromini (a major figure in Roman Baroque architecture), the Donna Camilla Savelli is located just over a bridge from the heart of old Rome and immersed in the bohemian district of Trastevere. The 76 rooms and suites are sober in decoration very much in harmony with the monastic concept of the historic building. The magnificent view of Rome from the panoramic roof terrace is too much of a treat to miss. Not a luxury stay, but one of the cleverest choices around. You will not feel like a tourist here. We do recommend the premiere suite with terrace, if you can justify it.

Hotel: Casa Montani. Rome

Casa Montani, a small and perfectly formed luxurious B&B  run and owned by Guiseppe and Carlotta the owners, with just 5 bedrooms and two brand new apartments. Fantastically Located 1 minute from Plaza del Popolo, the original gateway to Rome and the entrance to the Borghese Gardens. The facilities and decoration reflect their attention to detail and superb continental breakfast is served in the room is a lovely plus. Memory foam beds and the softest of pillows and total sound proofing ensure a very comfortable stay. Housed on the third floor of a beautiful building with furniture and fabrics from the best Italian and French brands and commissioned furniture, each room is unique.  Being so small we suggest booking early. The feeling is very personal and intimate.

Hotel: Capanna Suites. Montalcino, Tuscany

We have been working with this winery over the years and finally they have inaugurated their Lodging, Its taken a lot longer than anticipated.  Its not only superb in all aspects its run by very competent people. who we trust. Intimate with just 11 rooms and suites. Capanna is our go to winery finally having a good lodging in Montalcino that is not as expensive and more relaxed than Castiglion del Bosco. All Amenities are spot on, design touches and great Italian finishes everywhere. Small Spa with treatments and a pool with the most incredible 180 View of the vineyards of South Eastern Brunello Vines. with Montosoli being one of the great zones. Chef has a star and like everything else here the mood is relaxed and attracts the same. You wont find a great meal so easy as this one. We are very pleased to be working with Capanna. They know what is expected for our customers.

Tour Outline – Rome & Tuscany – 8 Nights for Suzanne & Peter and Julie & Grinnell

Katharine (Your Dedicated Driver and Tour Director)

Your driver will be Katharine in Florence, who will also act as your tour Director. Florence and the entire region of Tuscany are so rich in cultural heritage, stunning art, superb architecture, picturesque landscapes, good food and incredible wine that if you are not careful you will fall in love with the place and spend the rest of your life here. This is exactly what has happened to Katharine. Born in California and graduate of the University of Berkeley (California), Katharine has been living in Italy for the last thirty years now. With a handle on both languages and cultures, she really enjoys exposing clients to those aspects of the land, the language and the lifestyle of the Bel Paese that give them something to chew on in addition to the sumptuous offerings of Italy.

Tim (Your Dedicated Driver and Tour Director)

Tim was born in the UK and is of Scottish descent. Tim was introduced to fine wines in 1988 when he worked for Sakagura Wine & Liquor … part of Intercontinental Group in Hong Kong. He was responsible for selling their collection of Bordeaux Wines and other top quality new world wines, probably the best collection in Asia at that time. He never quite recovered from tasting the very best at early age of 18. However, he went on to complete his studies in Economics and Business. He was unable to find a suitably well-paid job in wine in London and so embarked on a career in finance, including, Fidelity Investments, Schroders and CSFB. He decided to leave finance in 1998 to refocus on finding a project involving his love: the wine. Tim inaugurated Robertson Wine Tours (RWT) in 2003. The business has grown organically over the years and despite efforts to get involved in exporting he has stuck to the tried and tested formula of offering his clients the best the wine countries have to offer. The client base of RWT is rightly demanding of the best, extremely well travelled and generally with knowledge or love of wine.

Cristina (Florence Cultural Expert)

Cristina graduated at the Florence University with a Master Degree in Art History on XVI Century Florentine Private Art Collections. She also attended the Florence University Institute of Fine Arts with studies toward a PHD in Art History with focus on history of technical restoration of paintings. She taught Early XX Century European Vanguards at the Syracuse University and Early Renaissance Art at Pepperdine (James Madison) University in Florence. Cristina is also a long time lecturer and docent at the New York University (Villa La Pietra) in Florence, with focus on the Acton Art Collection, the Anglo-Americans in Florence and the history of the formal gardens of Italy. Check out, Transfer to Rome, Flight out of Rome

Check out of Capanna Suites

Private Transfer to Rome Airport (FCO)

This transfer will only work if your flight is later than Midday. Any earlier would seem a stressful way to finish your Italian Immersion

Travel Time is 2 and half hours and you need to be at the FCO 2 hours (you may prefer more) prior to departure Time

There are 2 great flights from FCO to JFK at 12.50 and 2,50 operated by Delta and Alitalia that our clients often take, It is a great departure time, however you may have other preferences

Flying out of Florence or Pisa Airport is also another option but that would imply a stop in a European Hub, Lufthansa Part of the Star Alliance works very well

If you do Not like this idea we can play it a number of other ways

The best way to counter this is we head straight to Tuscany and we make Rome at the end
We alter the Tour around a little logistically and we head to Rome the night before (Saturday 2nd May) to be able to secure an earlier morning flight out of FCO without a long transfer. Note Many flights leave 9 to 9.30 AM to the USA

It really depends on the flights that work for all 4 of you and your airline Preference. Very happy to discuss this point as it does come up a lot.
