HOTELS

ROME

Lord Byron, Its a steal of a price for a 5star Luxury hotel, Why, well its not slap bang in the Centre,  you need to walk through the Borghese Gardens to get into Central - Ancient Rome...I love it as do clients, and if you do not want urban shock this is PERFECT. 3 Nights

AMALFI

I have reserved the Santa Catarina. Its the best hotel in Campania and on the Amalfi Coast. 5 Star Luxury and it is perfection as it should be, Classic in style and understated and refined and family run, no snobbery here neither their clientele who are serial repeaters and friendly they have a 98% occupation rate. Full sea view Room. It just doesn't get better, But what we must do is give you some down time to enjoy it.  4 Nights

ROME

Last night in Rome. Finish with a bang at the Grande Hotel Minerve  1 Night Location Location Location Amazing, even a view over the Pantheon from your room.

TOUR

It may not seem like there is a lot of wineries on your Tour but we can make lots of pre dinner tastings, you have a lot to see, so I have just kept it to the most genuine and interesting. I will be making tastings for you of these regions below that we are not traveling so you get a 360 degree panorama of Italy, not easy with over 1000 Varieties, yes thats right, Could be as many as 1400..Can you believe that.  We will be going to wineries in Campania  and  Frascati on the drive  back up to Rome.

Other Regions we will taste during the tour:

  • SICILY
  • PIEDMONT
  • FRIULI
  • TUSCANY

FOOD /MEALS

Ok so where we will book and choose lunches is because its the best thing to do, but listening to what you said, I think giving you more flexibility and eating A la Carte would generally be the way to go.

Welcome and Farewell dinner Included in Rome. Would certainly like to touch a little more on the subject of Food and Restaurant choices with you.

Hotel: Lord Byron, Rome

Located close to the magnificent gardens of Villa Borghese and outside the central buzz of Rome, this is a gem of a hotel. There are not many Italian owned and run great hotels left in Rome now: this is one and you can note it from the moment you arrive. The Art Deco & Belle Epoque touches are a real delight. It is small, intimate and very well priced five stars stay in Rome. Communal spaces are great, such as the Salotto Lounge & Wine Bar effortlessly cool, giving it a private club like feel. Very loyal clientele.

Hotel: Santa Caterina, Amalfi Coast.Campania

Santa Caterina is a late 19th century liberty style villa immersed in the beautiful scenery of the Amalfi Coast, a very elegant seaside residence surrounded by the gorgeous blue of the Mediterranean Sea. All of this property enjoys luscious bougainvillea, cultivated olive groves and fruit orchards. The villa is stuffed full of treasures and none more so than the staff who are perhaps the best trained and friendliest that we have found in this region. Clients love the pools, the spa, the food, nothing is amiss. This is five stars luxury in every sense of the word. You need to book ahead, as they have nearly a 100% occupancy rate that should tell you everything you need to know.

Hotel: Grand Hotel de la Minerve, Rome

This incredible 16th-century palace in the very heart of the old part of Rome is one of the Grand Dames. Apart from the Absolutely perfect location, the atrium bar, the roof top garden and the terrace are all great spaces to relax, read a book or enjoy a glass of wine. You will see the Pantheon’s roof from your room if we choose the rooms we like. Rooms are stylish but not form over function, this is also not a chain and we love female GM who cares and is ever present.

This is the best place to go out and stroll around Old Rome, if you are short on time and want to be close to it all, you cannot get better.

GUIDING: Tim Robertson and Katharine

GUIDING

Tim

Tim was born in the UK and is of Scottish descent. Tim was introduced to fine wines in 1988 when he worked for Sakagura Wine & Liquor … part of Intercontinental Group in Hong Kong. He was responsible for selling their collection of Bordeaux Wines and other top quality new world wines, probably the best collection in Asia at that time. He never quite recovered from tasting the very best at early age of 18. However, he went on to complete his studies in Economics and Business. He was unable to find a suitably well-paid job in wine in London and so embarked on a career in finance, including, Fidelity Investments, Schroders and CSFB. He decided to leave finance in 1998 to refocus on finding a project involving his love: the wine. Tim inaugurated Robertson Wine Tours (RWT) in 2003. The business has grown organically over the years and despite efforts to get involved in exporting he has stuck to the tried and tested formula of offering his clients the best the wine countries have to offer. The client base of RWT is rightly demanding of the best, extremely well travelled and generally with knowledge or love of wine.

Katharine

Katharine is the greatest of fits for your tour as she comes from a Californian Family which was on the other side of the Cesar Chavez fight, invented Lettuce in a bag and hails from Berkley CA, she went native in Italy 30 years ago and drives for us and a whole lot more, her step brother currently owns Taylor Farms.
