Wine & Food Experience in South America: Chile ROBERTSON WINE TOURS for Mr. & Mrs. Colan  Wednesday, 30th November 2016 - Friday, 2nd December 2016

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Conlan,

Please find below the immersion into wine we have designed for you. We look forward to hearing your thoughts.

We have pulled out all the stops to give you the most rigorous wine experience prior to your trip to Patagonia. We have understood very carefully you are looking for a deeper experience. Although there are only three days to play with, you are going to taste some very important wines and understand the whole of Chile wine wise. While we noted you were not wanting to spend a great deal of money on the hotel, we also think you are going to appreciate Casa Higueras. Valparaiso works very well for our wine adventures and here we think you need views and a certain level of service. Yes, days out will be packed, but you wanted to hit the road running and that is what we have done.

We have been extremely discerning on the wines, wineries and tastings. We listened to what you said about the level of wines and this is evident throughout the tour. With this tour and Gonzalo literally breathing the wine industry of Chile, you will come away with a 360 degree panorama.

After fourteen years of visiting Chile, we really now say that we understand why this country is literally a heaven for winemakers, boasting such a diverse range of terroirs due to the incredible length of the country (4,300 kms). We have concentrated on some small and niche wineries, as well as the massively important. You will visit Maipo Valley, the origins of the mythical world beating cabs. In San Antonio & Rosario, you will sample the best of cooler climate white/reds. We also have a super evening cooking experience in Valparaiso, while presenting some epic wines of Chile. No company does wine and food experiences like us. Chile is no exception.

We would also like to present these three wines, if you think you can squeeze any more in. Thes are extremely interesting and iconic wines. The cost of opening these is noted under pricing.

Concha y Toro Gravas del Maipo Syrah Casa Silva Microterroir Carmenere Von Siebenthal Montelig

Thank you for being patient for us to get this presented to you. We  wanted to create something that will tick all your boxes from what I understood from our phone conversation.

Chile, being a winemaker's paradise, has attracted young winemaking talents from all over the world, none more so than the sons and daughters of wineries' owners from France. A new reality of natural and terroir driven wines have also exploded. It is no longer necessary to visit just Napa-eqsue experiences in cathedrals to wine, which, however technically correct, are just more of the same over-extracted and barrelled new world wines. In Chile, the great varieties from France predominate: Cabernet Sauvignon followed by Merlot, Carmenere, Malbec, Pinot Noir & Syrah. There are unquestionably unique wines coming from all parts of Chile that are not just new world copies. Did you know Chile thankfully never succumbed to phylloxera and there was no forced uprooting of 100 years old vines (European Market in the 80's)? This makes for some outstanding old vineyard treasures, particularly the ones with Carmenere. Click here for more information on the wines of Chile.

Valparaiso – Casa Higueras

The hills of Valparaiso have enjoyed a boom of boutique hotels in the last decade, but Casa Higueras is a cut above the rest. Casa Higueras exemplifies a new standard. The two million dollars restoration tucked twenty spacious rooms (many with ocean-view terraces) into a former mansion’s elegant craftsman-style interior with five stars flair. Dark wooden floors and corridors create a very calm interior and the views across the bay and back up the hill are spectacular. Expect mod cons (keyless entry and noise-reducing windows) and plenty of pampering. A stunning terraced garden cascades to an infinity pool. Casa Higueras is the perfect choice in Valparaiso.

Tour Guiding & Outline – Chile – 3 Days Full Immersion

Gonzalo has an international business degree and has been related to the wine industry for more than seven years now. He has also taken some wine courses (WSET 1 & 2, Sommelier School Level 2). After becoming a sommelier, he got a contract working on-board of the Seabourn Sojourn as a sommelier where he had the chance to learn more about international grape varietals and sharing experiences with wine lovers. Ten years ago, he went to travel as a backpacker to Australia & New Zealand, where he always tried to find jobs related to the wine industry (cellar hand, seasonal vineyard worker). He also took an exchange program in the States for two winter seasons to learn and improve his language skills in English. In Chile, he worked as a tour guide for three years at Clos Apalta/Lapostolle Winery and now he works as freelance tour guide among other personal projects. Currently, he studies winemaking at the University of Talca in Santa Cruz besides French as a hobby. Wine is his passion and he loves sharing this with people from all over the world. Now the Chilean wines are not boring anymore, there is so many interesting musts to taste and to experience that he feels part of it and ready to share it with you.
