Wine & Food Experience in South America: Argentina & Chile ROBERTSON WINE TOURS for Ken, Rosa & Lenora Thursday, 08th December - Saturday, 17th December 2016

FOCUS

Dear Ken, Rosa & Lenora:

We have designed this nine nights immersion into South America having listened very carefully to Kenton. We are setting a relaxed pace and have chosen just to change hotel three times in nine nights. This, we feel, will make all the difference, not having to pack and unpack and giving to you time to enjoy the culture, the people, the wines and foods of the Southern Cone. The idea is for the family to have time to spend together in wonderful settings without having to stress or worry about anything. We have held back on too many included dinners, with seven winery visits. We feel we are not overdoing wine, but you will certainly get a great immersion into the varietals of South America and we are sure you will gain your confidence in all things related to this wonderful world of wines during the tour. All the expert guiding and visits will be a perfect compliment to the city tours and understanding of the local cultures. We will also have some superb restaurants and unmissable winery lunches.

We will be showing you Buenos Aires with Mariana, our resident guide and tango dancer, and we are including a superb dinner and night out with real tango. A day in Uruguay will give to you an understanding of just how different these three countries and peoples are. In Mendoza, there is wine and some outstanding lunches with the ever present Andes in the background. In Chile, we have opted to show you the capital, Santiago, with our guide and then take you to the Pacific Coast to enjoy Valparaiso and/or the lodge of Matetic Winery, finishing the tour exploring Casablanca & Rosario Valleys.

We cannot think of a more relaxed and delightful immersion into these three countries. After designing immersions for our clients for 13 years, we can promise you what we have architected here is going to be very special.

Hotels:

Buenos Aires – Bo Bo

Bo Bo stands for Bourgeois Bohemian. It is situated in a quiet area of cobbled streets. It is a small and charming boutique hotel with fifteen rooms. Personalized service, friendly staff and a Buenos Aires destination restaurant, all add to its charms. Well priced and wonderfully located in the heart of Palermo, you have a massive choice of restaurants, wine bars and shopping possibilities, just stumbling distance.

Mendoza City – Diplomatic

Diplomatic is located in a privileged position just few blocks from the main commercial and tourist areas. Its strategic location offers guests the best view of both the Andes and the city itself. Built as the Luxury Hotel to beat in Mendoza, it was designed in exquisite detail involving elegance and class, large spaces and rooms and suites with lovely parquet flooring not carpet.  You can also enjoy a super pool and decked area with views over the Andes. Full Spa services, a breakfast that hits all the buttons. We really like this hotel especially as the fact it is not an international chain and is owned and run by a Mendoza family.

Valparaiso – Casa Higueras

The hills of Valparaiso have enjoyed a boom of boutique hotels in the last decade, but Casa Higueras is a cut above the rest. Casa Higueras exemplifies a new standard. The two million dollars restoration tucked twenty spacious rooms (many with ocean-view terraces) into a former mansion’s elegant craftsman-style interior with five stars flair. Dark wooden floors and corridors create a very calm interior and the views across the bay and back up the hill are spectacular. Expect mod cons (keyless entry and noise-reducing windows) and plenty of pampering. A stunning terraced garden cascades to an infinity pool. Casa Higueras is the perfect choice in Valparaiso.

Tour Outline & Guiding – Argentina & Chile 9 Nights – Mr Kenton Larson & Family

GUIDING

Mariana (Buenos Aires / Argentina)

She is fluent in English & Spanish with many years of experience in tourism. Mariana is just the perfect guide as she can read people very well and knows pretty well how to get into the skin of Buenos Aires. You will have with her a very intense and fascinating understanding of Buenos Aires with Mariana. Also do not forget that Mariana is a great tango dancer.

Damian (Uruguay)

Damian is a wine connoisseur who was born and raised in Mendoza. He was always in contact with the wine culture in his daily life thanks to this grandfather, a wine enthusiast who had been a manager of a large tree plantation in Uco Valley, the very heart of the wine industry in Mendoza. In 2004 he spend three months in New York, where he acquired the fluency and proficiency needed to communicate in English as a native speaker. After getting a BA in Mendoza, he left the city in the search of new horizons and arrived in Uruguay. He started to investigate the new territory, visiting different wineries across the country and talking to wine makers as well as studying the wine culture of the country. He finally came to the conclusion that Uruguay, a country who was not yet discovered by wine lovers, was a diamond in the rough and had to be known in the world. You will have the chance with Damian to discover and enjoy Uruguay in a very friendly way by introducing you to the relaxed and informal local style, which allows people to meet the winery owners in person and ask them all the questions they may have about grape growing and wine-making process. A unique experience.

Macarena (Mendoza / Argentina)

Macarena is a certified translator in English/Spanish and has experience in the world of wine. Her passion for wine began years ago, when she worked as a tour guide at Vistalba Winery, where she carried out bilingual wine tastings and worked as an interpreter in commercial meetings. She was also in charge of La Posada Wine Lodge and of wine sales at the winery. Moreover, she lived three years in the United States and spent a year in Buenos Aires. Today, she works as a wine tour guide and as a freelance translator. She really enjoys her job as she can include in her life her three passions: wine, nature and language. She believes the wine, the traditional food and the Andes Mountain Range of Mendoza are a perfect combination, which she enjoys sharing with anyone who visits the province. Her goal as a wine tour guide is not only to transmit the enthusiasm and excitement people from Mendoza live in the cradle of Malbec, but also to make visitors live an experience they will never forget.

Gonzalo (Chile)

Gonzalo has an international business degree and has been related to the wine industry for more than seven years now. He has also taken some wine courses (WSET 1 & 2, Sommelier School Level 2). After becoming a sommelier, he got a contract working on-board of the Seabourn Sojourn as a sommelier where he had the chance to learn more about international grape varietals and sharing experiences with wine lovers. Ten years ago, he went to travel as a backpacker to Australia & New Zealand, where he always tried to find jobs related to the wine industry (cellar hand, seasonal vineyard worker). He also took an exchange program in the States for two winter seasons to learn and improve his language skills in English. In Chile, he worked as a tour guide for three years at Clos Apalta/Lapostolle Winery and now he works as freelance tour guide among other personal projects. Currently, he studies winemaking at the University of Talca in Santa Cruz besides French as a hobby. Wine is his passion and he loves sharing this with people from all over the world. Now the Chilean wines are not boring anymore, there is so many interesting musts to taste and to experience that he feels part of it and ready to share it with you.
